To evoke an elevated dining and shopping experience, fashion and food illustrator Gretchen Röehrs developed illustrations “culinary couture” that fortified our Centralicious campaign, in honour of the anniversary of Food Central.
You created illustrations for Square One’s Centralicious campaign in 2015, what was your favourite part about working with Square One?
GR: The campaign we did for Square One was the first major project where I was able to create illustrations for a variety of restaurants and cuisines. Being pushed to think outside my normal process was exciting!
What is something you could not live without?
GR: I hate to say it but my iPhone orchestrates so much of my day to day life. It would be interesting to live without it.
How would you describe your fashion style in three words or fewer?
GR: More is more!
Instagram or Snapchat?
GR: Instagram, naturally. Snapchat requires a level of humour or lifestyle I don’t have!
What’s the last thing you do before going to bed?
GR: Snuggle with my beagle, Charley.
Who is your favourite designer?
GR: Oh, there are so many—but Jason Wu was one of the first designers that created clothes for the type of woman that I want to be.
Do you have a beauty trick that you live by?
GR: Drink more water! If your skin is dehydrated there’s not much you can do to it.
Living or dead, who is your fashion icon?
GR: Frida Kahlo
What was the best advice you were ever given?
GR: Value style over beauty.
