Dylan Sit is the Creative Director for Civello Salon Spas and an Aveda mentor Purefessional. She is a regular as New York Fashion Week, and has worked with designers such as Betsy Johnson, Richard Chai, and Christian Siriano. Dylan discusses spring/summer hair trends, ways to maintain healthy hair, plus her experience working at New York Fashion Week.

WHAT HAIR TRENDS SHOULD WE ANTICIPATE FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2017?

DS: Short textured hair is coming in for S/S 17. A fusion of strong and soft, depicting the notion of a woman that exudes femininity with strong confidence. Women are ready to embrace shorter looks and get rid of what they had to go shorter and bolder. Also, the bold and short styles inspired by K-pop are becoming quite popular.

WHICH AVEDA PRODUCTS DO YOU RECOMMEND USING TO ACHIEVE THESE LOOKS?

DS: Achieve some of these on-trend looks with Aveda Thickening Tonic, which helps achieve a fuller and more textured style. Aveda Dry Shampure also gives you that lived-in look and adds texture and body at same time.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR MAINTAINING HEALTHY HAIR DURING THE HARSH WINTER MONTHS?

DS: Getting a good trim even if you’re trying to grow your hair, as well as, using a good shampoo and conditioner, such as Aveda Damage Remedy line. Protecting hair from blow drying and flat ironing, using products such as Aveda Brilliant Damage Control

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

DS: Visiting a lot of different cities and seeing different architecture inspires me. Cars also inspire me—the new designs are design concepts that allude to the unique shapes that will soon be trending in other sectors like fashion and beauty.

NAME A FEW PLACES YOU'VE TRAVELLED THAT HAVE INSPIRED YOUR CREATIVITY.

DS: Cities that inspire me include Paris, London, and NYC. They’re all very energetic and stimulating. Asia also inspires me because they’re ahead of the game with trends.

WHAT'S YOUR FONDEST MEMORY WORKING AS CREATIVE DIRECTOR FOR CIVELLO SALON SPAS AND AS AN AVEDA MENTOR?

DS: The constant feeling of being inspired and inspiring others. It’s an ongoing circle that never stops in my day-to-day role.

WHAT ROLE DID YOU PLAY IN THE CREATION OF THE AVEDA'S FOKLOR COLLECTION, FW2016?

DS: I worked with Aveda’s Global Creative Director and solidified several of the haircuts within the collection. I determined the concepts and techniques to achieve the short and textured urban looking styles, such as the twisting and sliding technique to embrace and enhance texture in a natural way.

DESCRIBE SOME OF YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK.

DS: It was adrenaline-filled, and participants were always on a great high. The energy is so magnetic and exciting to be a part of. Everybody there works hard, but maintains a very positive and collaborative vibe. So many people are there from different industries—makeup, hair, and fashion. Everyone is inspired by one another. There’s an intertwining of energy and inspiration, which brings out the best in every single stylist.

WHICH CELEBRITY HAS GREAT HAIR?

DS: Evan Rachel Wood revealed a short style at the Golden Globes and it looked amazing!
