On Saturday May 19th Prince Harry & Meghan Markle will wed at Windsor Castle in St. George’s Chapel. Just as when Prince William and Kate Middletown were married, and Prince Charles and Princess Diana, the world will be watching.
Harry & Meghan’s royal wedding is set for broadcast at 12:00 pm GMT (that translates to 7:00am EST). The action will actually get started pre-wedding ceremony with arrivals of the couple’s 600 guests (expect to see Priyanka Chopard, Serena Williams, the Suits cast and maybe the Spice Girls, but most certainly the Beckhams). All of this points to a very early date with the telly.
A royal wedding viewing party with your best mates is the perfect way to take in this royal event and kick off the start to your Victoria Day weekend. Your guests will be arriving at dawn, so having your Harry & Meghan-themed celebration well organized is key to ensuring things are fun, easy and of course Instagram perfect. Here are five inspiring ideas to help you host a royal wedding viewing party to remember.
1. Dress your table in a British manner.
If ever there was a day to get out your best china (or borrow your mom or grandmother’s) this is it! We’re talking traditional floral and chintz tableware, toile table linens, vintage teapots, teacups and tiered cake stands. Accessorize with mini Union Jack flags and buntings. Don’t have classic patterns? Look to the Hudson’s Bay registry area for these British-inspired prints.
2. Create mini floral displays inspired by Meghan’s wedding floral choices.
It’s been revealed the royal wedding florals will include garden roses, peonies and foxgloves. Dress your space with mini bud vases (Simons and Crate & Barrel have their spring collection out) filled with these pretty springtime blooms.
3. Keep your morning menu easy.
Keep your morning menu easy. It’s early and nobody wants to cook! Have someone hit a McDonald’s drive through on their way over or consider ordering McDelivery to your house so everyone can enjoy their breakfast favourites. (Fun fact: more couples are serving McDonald’s burgers for their late night wedding meal. In fact, it’s rumoured even Harry and Meghan want burgers and fries as a late night nosh for their party!). For something sweet, you can pick up treats like empire cookies, pound cake, cupcakes and even mini wedding cakes to decorate your table and enjoy after the Harry and Meghan make it official.
4. Provide your guests with a morning wardrobe.
Custom monogrammed pjs for royal wedding viewing are mandatory! Be a hostess with the mostess and treat your guests to new jammies which you send them in advance of the wedding for them to arrive in the morning of. Hit an accessories shop, like Forever 21, and pickup some sparkly tiaras for them to wear too.
5. Don’t forget the swag.
Send guests home with a wedding favour to remember the day and your amazing party. A few ideas we love: bespoke cookies made for the day, loose leaf teas from David’s Tea, British Rose Beauty bag from the Body Shop, mini floral bouquets and a mini bottle of bubbly from LCBO with a swizzle straw to match.
