Less has always been more when it comes to bridal makeup, but the minimalist makeup trend now officially tops the list of wedding essentials thanks to the most famous celebrity bride of 2018: Meghan Markle. On her wedding day the Duchess of Sussex complimented her sleek Givenchy gown with fresh, unfussy makeup—glowing skin, softly smoked eyes and a kiss of tawny pink on her lips.

For her big day, Meghan put herself in the expert hands of her friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin, a Dior brand ambassador and Honest Beauty creative colour consultant. Though he’s now famed as the creator of this iconic beauty look, Martin says the only concern he had about Meghan’s wedding makeup was that she felt confident in it.

“Meghan’s look was about showing the world what her internal beauty represents: a confident woman,” Martin shares. “When you’re comfortable in your own skin, wearing makeup you feel beautiful in, that confidence shines through and that’s what resonated with so many people around the world. Her makeup was effortless and captured the essence of who she is.”

To emulate Meghan’s wedding look, make flawless skin your focus. For the Duchess, Martin buffed in foundation allowing her natural skin to shine. Cheeks were brightened with cream blush and highlighter to add a glow. Corner lashes were added to create depth and her lip colour was nothing more than a slick of sheer lipstick.

He believes his close relationship with the royal bride was a key part of the success of her beauty style. “It’s extremely important for a bride and her glam team to understand one another,” Martin smiles. This is a moment in time you will always remember and you want to look back at your wedding photos with pride, rather than have regrets about a trendy beauty look that dates you.”
