Born in Greece and educated in Australia, Stephan Caras, together with his son Kyriako, designs his luxe, international fashion in his downtown Toronto studio. We had the pleasure of working with them at SQ1CONCEPT as purveyors of fine fashion and as indudstry experts in our Behind the Seams panel discussion event, also attended by fashion designer Christopher Bates and jewellery artist Alan Anderson.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT WORKING WITH SQUARE ONE?
S&K: Our favourite part about working with Square One was definitely having the opportunity to be a part of such great initiatives that celebrate Canadian fashion and design. SQ1CONCEPT, the Square One concept store is exactly what fashion needs in Canada, driving Canadian fashion forward, and delivering it directly to the consumer in an innovative and interactive way. When we are able to collaborate with such great projects that propel Canadian fashion, it is inspiring and motivates us to be actively involved and to showcase what Canadian designers have to offer. We were very happy to be a part of such a great experience, and we are inspired to continue to support opportunities such as this.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT?
S&K: Coffee and our worktable. Without either, we could not create and engineer future styles and collections.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR FASHION STYLE IN THREE WORDS OR LESS?
S&K: Timeless, sensual, feminine.
INSTAGRAM OR SNAPCHAT?
WHAT’S THE LAST THING YOU DO BEFORE GOING TO BED?
S&K: I think about what we’ve accomplished in the studio and try to imagine different ways in which we can build on it. When creating new designs, it opens up new ideas and ways that styles and shapes can be manipulated. I often play with these ideas in my head and construct them conceptually before I go to sleep.
LIVING OR DEAD, WHO IS YOUR FASHION ICON?
S&K: Emanuel Ungaro.
WHICH CURRENT FASHION OR BEAUTY TREND ARE YOU LOVING THIS SEASON? WHICH COULD YOU DO WITHOUT?
S&K: BEAUTY: Bold lips in shades of blue or shades of blackberries and plums.
FASHION: Sheer Fabrics & Overlay and denim jackets.
Could do without: XXL …oversizing.
