The sun is out, the temperatures are rising and summer style is in full swing. We’ve rounded up the top trends popular among the fashion crowd for you to don this season.
Poplin Power
Poplin for summer may not seem groundbreaking but hear us out: the cotton fabric is making big waves this season, perhaps replacing the ever-so-popular summer fave, linen. The beauty of poplin is that it provides that easy breezy feel for summer but looks slightly more polished than linen. And there are endless variations – from maxi dresses to the trending bubble skirt and, of course, the fashion girl fave: the matching set.

Capri Renaissance
Fashion, as we know, is cyclical and this season marks the return of the capri pants. As seen on the runways of Tory Burch, Coperni and 3.1 Phillip Lim and on style stars such as Bella and Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski, we are deeming pedal pushers as the trend of the season. With so many iterations (Denim! Poplin! Leggings! Tailored trousers!), capris can be worn on casual days with a bomber jacket, at the office with a blazer and on a night out with a satin or puff-sleeved top.

Fashion Flip Flop
Another trend making a triumphant return this season? The thong sandal. No, we’re not talking about your poolside flip flops, but rather elevated versions for the fashion set, a la Chanel, Burberry and Proenza Schouler. To avoid looking like you just came back from the beach, opt for a leather version with a chunky flat sole, or a heeled version with a strappy silhouette. Bonus? They’ll go great with your new pair of capris!

Bloomer Season
While last summer was all about the boxer short, this summer is all about the bloomer. In keeping with the fashion set’s current obsession with the coquette aesthetic, these lingerie-inspired shorts are playful with their frilly hems, billowy cuts and lacy details. Pair your bloomers with a vintage tee or a vest, tube socks and sneakers for the perfect model-off-duty look. Or, if you want to channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw, opt for some cowboy boots, your fave basic tank and an oversized cardigan.

Sheer Dressing
Among one of the more daring trends this season is sheer dressing. See-through dresses, skirts and tops were seen on the runways of Dior, Chanel, Hermes and Prada in many iterations and forms. But contrary to what you may think, this trend is super wearable. Try layering a mini skirt over a sheer maxi skirt or opt for a going out top with a sheer overlay paired with trousers for a chic evening look. Or, zero in on the ultra trendy mesh flat a la Alaia and The Row.

Grown Up Bag Charms
Flex your creative muscles this season by personalizing your fave handbag to be uniquely your own. As seen on Miu Miu, Coach and Balenciaga’s runways, as well as on our favourite street style stars, bag charms are a fun way to embrace the maximalist trend. From key chains to charms to scarves and even mini versions of your go-to designer totes, there are endless ways to liven up your handbags for the season.
