    Sustainability

Square One is committed to sustainability and proud of the following green initiatives:

    Recycling

Square One is equipped with 9 compactors where all cardboard, paper, bottles, cans and plastics are recycled.

    Bicycle Parking Stations

Bicycle stands are located at the following entrances: 1, 3, 7, 8 and The Food District. Additional bicycle stands can be found at the P1 parking deck, near Simons, Whole Foods and Crate & Barrel. View on map.

    Solar Panels

Our rooftop solar panel installation is one of the largest in the Greater Toronto Area. The 800+ panels (spanning 50,000 sq. ft) and 7 inverters help supply clean, renewable power requirements of an average-sized Square One store.

In 2021, the second phase of our solar panel installation will be launched, encompassing 1,402 panels and 17 inverters.

    Water Management

Square One is equipped with 39 waterless urinals. Since January 2019, over 19.25 million liters of fresh water has been saved by using this technology.

Water flow on over 150 faucets throughout the shopping centre are equipped with a Swiss spray technology, saving an additional 70% of water when washing your hands. An average of 1.875 million liters of fresh drinking water can be saved annually.

    MicroHabitat

Square One continues to expand its sustainability program with the introduction of a rooftop garden, featuring various herbs and vegetables. This will allow the creation of healthy environments for local inhabitants and local pollinators to bring our community one step closer to a greener future. Harvests from the 500 sq/ft garden will be donated to Eden Food for Change, a local food bank that serves west Mississauga.

    Rooftop Beehives

Square One is home to one beehive from urban beekeeping company, Aveole, that will live on the rooftop to support and help grow the bee population. The bees travel 5kms to pollinate, contribute to biodiversity and provide a food source while contributing to the greening in the neighbourhood and local gardens. We thank our neighbours for planting luscious gardens to help pollination.
